Tapestry, Celebrations of Diversity, the City of Kitchener’s Diversity Committee, and FM 98.5 CKWR present the Hon. Jean Augustine, PC, CM , Fairness Commisssioner of Ontario on Thursday, January 10th at 11:30 a.m.at Kitchener City Hall Rotunda.
Dr. Augustine will speak on the registration process of internationally-trained professsionals, followed by a talk back session with the public.
The mandate of the Office of The Fairness Commissioner is to ensure that people are treated fairly when they apply to become licensed professionals in Ontario's regulated professions, no matter where they were trained.
Dr. Augustine is also a former Member of Parliament, being the first African-Canadian woman to be elected to the House of Commons. It is thanks to her efforts that February is Black History Month in Canada. She has been recognized by many organizations over the years for her leadership and community involvement, and has been awarded honorary doctor of laws degrees by the University of Toronto, the University of Guelph, McGill University and York University. In 2009 she was appointed to the Order of Canada.
